Oftentimes, there is not enough room in the mouth to accommodate the wisdom teeth, which can prevent them from growing in properly. This can result in considerable pain, infection, and chronic headaches. For some, wisdom teeth emerge only partially through the gums, which can result in cavities, gum infection and/or extreme pain. If wisdom teeth grow in an unusual direction, the uneven development can cause complications, including  damage to adjacent molars. The more common reason for removal is when there is not enough room for molars to grow in. This is called ‘Impacted’ wisdom teeth. When teeth are impacted, the area around can become a fertile ground for bacteria to grow, which can lead to gum infection, which can ultimately cause a great deal of pain, discomfort, swelling, and illness. Often, it will be recommended that wisdom teeth be removed before they erupt, in order to avoid future problems and costly surgical procedures.
